La ciudad más grande del país experimentó la lluvia de todo un verano en una noche, con propiedades inundadas, el aeropuerto de la ciudad cerró después de que los edificios de la terminal se llenaron de lluvia y muchos quedaron sin electricidad.
40.000 fanáticos se habían reunido en el Mt Smart Stadium el viernes para un espectáculo de la gira ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ del cantante, pero se les informó de la cancelación a las 7:15 p. m. hora local, solo 15 minutos antes de que John llegara al escenario.
Un fan presente le dijo a Sky News : “Estoy furioso. Estaba lloviendo mucho de camino al estadio y seguí revisando los anuncios, pero no salió nada, a pesar de que los charcos me llegaban a los tobillos.
«Después de que se canceló el concierto, cientos de personas hicieron cola bajo la lluvia para los autobuses de enlace y vi a algunas personas cantar para Elton con la esperanza de que viniera, pero allí era como un río literal».
Aún no se han compartido planes para un concierto reprogramado.

It seems Elton John and New Zealand just weren't meant to be, with a third concert being canned in three years. Heavy rain forced the concert to be called off, just as the Rocketman was set to to take the stage.
