La muerte fue confirmada por la Junta Nacional de Cine de Canadá (NFB) en un comunicado a Pitchfork .
En un comunicado, Claude Joli-Coeur, presidente de la NFB y comisionado de cine del gobierno, dijo: “Gerald vino a Canadá y a la NFB para ser parte de una nueva ola de narración, fresca e irreverente, y aportó gran ingenio y creatividad. a cada proyecto. También fue constructor y ayudó a sentar las bases de la industria de la animación canadiense independiente actual con Potterton Productions”.
Potterton nació en Londres y luego se mudó a Canadá en la década de 1950 para trabajar con la animación NFB.
Dirigió dos cortometrajes nominados al Oscar, My Financial Career y Christmas Cracker , además de dos comedias de acción real, The Ride y The Railrodder .
Trabajó en la famosa película animada de los Beatles Yellow Submarine en Londres en la década de 1960 antes de regresar a Canadá para fundar Potterton Productions.
También dirigió el culto Heavy Metal en 1981, que incluía música de bandas como Black Sabbath , Devo y más.
Rindiendo homenaje, The Beatles Story en Liverpool escribió: “Nos entristece saber del fallecimiento del animador, escritor, director y productor Gerald Potterton.
